This will be the last Sadaharu show for some time, so DON'T MISS IT.

posted by Jesse Windels 2008 Jul 13th, a Sunday Branden, come to this show!
These guys impress repeatedly. They are on Table of the Elements (same as Neptune) AND they are righteous dudes. Megafaun's sound oscillates between the righteous certainty of gospel and the more melancholy gentleness of finger-picked folk. Banjo player Phil Cook's voice and style of playing is more strident than his brother's, and the songs where he takes the lead -- "Find Your Mark" and "Lazy Suicide" -- reference bluegrass. "Drains," the quietest song (and the one dead-ringer for touring partners Akron/Family), showcases Brad Cook's singing, which is more haunting and less forceful. Yet perhaps the band's signature sound comes when all three members sing together, in close, rough-edged harmonies, just a little too hard and rock-tinged to be really traditional. |
WOMAN posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jul 12th, a Saturday ![]() What are you doing tonight? Have I got a suggestion! Head over to LEMP where the tunes are hot and the air conditioning cool. A FREE SHOW! Don't miss this rare chance to hear the up and coming post hardcore group WOMAN from Knoxville, TN. And - since there are no locals on this bill - you'll stll have plenty of time to head to your favorite watering hole and throw back some Brewsker Dü's! 8:30 pm WOMAN at LNAC - FREE |
FREE WOMAN FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS IT posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jul 11th, a Friday Tomorrow night at Lemp, the WOMAN show is now FREE for all to attend and enjoy! So if you happen to be out on the town Saturday night, and you happen to be in the mood for psyched-out dance-y over-hyphenated post-punk, but it's just a touch out of your price range--Worry no more! |
Music, Movies, and a Play! posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jul 8th, a Tuesday Yeah, we have concerts here. We do other stuff too. No, seriously, check it out:Tomorrow we have "The Last Hurrah of the Clementines," presented by THE MISSOULA OBLONGATA. They're an experimental theater group from Baltimore, and they're on tour with their latest production, which will probably have music. You know, just in case the idea of an evening at Lemp without any live music was frightening you. Come check it out, Wednesday (7/9) at 8:00! Thursday night heralds the long-awaited return of ruthless grindcore bands ROGUE STATE and DOHRN. Their social mentality is as scathing as their music and lyrics. Bands like this make you want to storm the capitol! They're on tour all the way out from California, which is a ballsy trek considering the price of gas across the country. You only have to drive a couple miles to see these amazing bands! It's YEARS since they've last been here, don't miss out! As if that weren't enough, ALTAMIRA, a really progressive math/jazz/rock group from Philadelphia will also be playing Lemp on the very same night! This show will, for lack of a better term, SHRED. DO NOT MISS OUT. 7/11: Friday night is a night of short films by Aaron Ross of Northern Illinois showcasing some of his films and the music he wrote to go with it. Accompanying him are our own local auteres, Jeremy Kannapel and Mr. Pancake Productions himself, RØB Severson. What else? Saturday, July 12th:WOMAN Sunday, July 13th: A special benefit for everyone's favorite skinny black cat, Nikola! |
Las Minute Show and Other Shows TOO!!! posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jun 30th, a Monday A Certain venue in St. Louis has just shut down, and many bands are left without a show in St. Louis for their tour. We were contacted by Les Deux Magots, a tough two-piece garage/punk band, friends with great bands such as GUMBI, GAY BEAST, MUTATORS, and BIG NURSE. Looks like there's a show here on Tuesday after all! July 1st, LES DEUX MAGOTS, CHARLIE, and TRUE CALLAHAN doing a preview of their set for the VIALKA show on wednesday.Holy Shit! Did I say VIALKA this wednesday? I did! VIALKA, from Bordeaux, France, touring with their infant child and a nanny, playing the perfect mix of European folk music and BAD ASS ROCK. It's been FOUR YEARS since this band was last here for a show--don't miss them this time around! You'll be regretting it for a long time! Also this week--7/3, FOLLOWED BY GHOSTS, ambient post-rock guitar echo magic. The sounds of being lost in the woods, but in a good way. Support=Torchlight (D)Re(a)d. 7/4: INDEPENDENCE FROM INDEPENDENCE DAY! 2:00 in the afternoon! Bands, Barbecue, BFrisbee, Kickball, fun times!! Screw family gatherings, let's hang out with our friends! 7/5: The return of THE WESTERN FRONT! |
Animal City Returns! posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jun 24th, a Tuesday ANIMAL CITY, Chicago party-punk-rock, returns to Lemp this Thursday, ready to hand out ancient, guarded knowledge of mustaches and high-five techniques. These guys have been friends of Lemp for years, and it looks like they're showing up early to hang out all day! They're also showing a film called "Ideally." I don't know anything about it! They're also bringing along a band called GIVING UP. SLEEP STATE and DINOFIGHT! are also playing on this bill. And that's not all! An up-and-coming band in the New England prog/experimental scene, NORMAL LOVE, will also be playing on Thursday! Think Extra Life + Zs...no, really! This will be the show of the week--until Friday and Saturday of course! FRIDAY: Gloom and Doom from Asheville, NC--QUETZALCOATL. Andrew Hefner, Karthik Kakarala, and I will be playing along to drone everyone into oblivion. SATURDAY: The return of our very favorite post-hardcore band, the one and only BENARD! Don't miss it! |
W-S BURN, KARLHEINZ + friends posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jun 19th, a Thursday Remember DARK INSIDE THE SUN? Well, Steve Gigante is returning this Saturday, showing his softer, romantic side with W-S BURN. Steve and Pixie's melancholy lullabies are enough to bring even the harshest noisers to tears. Support on this show is DOORMAT (Matt of the legendary punk band NINETEEN), ANDREW HEFNER, Illinois' favorite Drone God, and Mr. Mark Sarich himself, EPICYCLE. Saturday night is no longer for partying, but rather bitter self-reflection. Just like I always wanted! Sunday night will turn up the Gain, the Grunge, the Harsh, and every ugly knob you can think of when KARLHEINZ arrives, the self-described ONE-MAN POWERHOUSE NOISE MACHINE, carrying SHARPWAIST, SILVUM, and STILLBIRTH in his wake. These are the Four Horsemen of the Noisepacalypse, and I, CHARLIE, have offered up myself as a sacrifice to these wicked gods. Plagues will erupt in the city. The earth will crack asunder. People will headbang to rhythms they think they hear. It will be LOUWDuh. We all know there's a lot of noise coming to town in the next few days--make sure you kick off this week-spanning showcase of harshness with KARLHEINZ! |
GHOST TOWNS TONIGHT posted by Charlie Turner 2008 Jun 18th, a Wednesday Summer 2007 we helped out a little hardcore band from Nebraska at the last minute by putting them on a show that was already booked. This band outshined everyone on the bill and blew us all away. The band I'm talking about is GHOST TOWNS, an incredible screamo/hardcore band that rivals the epic intensity of THIS CITY IS SINKING and MODERN LIFE IS WAR. On top of that, they are some of the warmest DIY musicians we have ever had the fortune to meet. The state of music in this town is dismal--despite the name, I believe GHOST TOWNS may do something to inspire us all. Touring alongside is GUMBI, a heavy, HEAVY post-hardcore band from Fargo, ND. Local support consists of our best friends, THE ULTRAVIOLENTS, doing their psycho-zombie-punk better than ever! You better not miss this! You'll only regret it! |
