| projects | lnac is striving to expand it's body of special events that help make STL a more robust scene. Below are the current projects underway. Please contact us with any suggestions or ideas for future events. - noisefeSTL - lemp summer arts institutes noisefeSTL The first noisefest was organized in 2004 in an attempt to link mid-west experimental performers whose work could be associated with noise. Up to that point there was little networking and for the most part touring was a difficult proposition. We also attack the mentality so common in the Midwest (and St. Louis in particular) that we’re second best….at best. All that changed the first night of the festival when national attention focused on what was happening!
Future plans for noisefeSTL
With each successful festival we see an increase in noise musicians around the Midwest. Our current goals include involving more first time festival performers and providing more classes and workshops as part of the festivities. We also hope to make the fellowship and communication which characterize the festival a feature of the Midwest scene year-round. We will do this by creating a web presence, networking the webpages of all noisefeSTL performers and other noise musicians (beyond the Midwestern scope). The publication of a program ‘zine’ which will include contact information for all performers will also enhance the potential for networking. We also want to expand the exhibit of Midwestern noise visual artists. As boundless as the definition of noise is, it allows us to expand in ways limited only by imagination and effort.
Will there be tickets sold in advance?
Yes. We should have them available three weeks ahead of the festival. We encourage people from out of town to come and observe this event! We will assist you in finding a place to stay. Tickets for each concert will be $5 and the workshops will be $2. If you plan to attend the whole weekend you can purchase a weekend pass for $16 (an $8 saving).
For performers and potential performers:
First, just because we have already selected more performers than we can logically fit into the weekend doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t bother to contact us if you want to be included. We anticipate that some performers won’t be able to attend and an opening could occur. BUT, we can’t promise anything just yet! If you’re on our list but haven’t gotten a message yet…there’s a reason for this! We lost all e-mail contact last summer and never regained out address book. If we haven’t contacted you it is likely because we don’t have your contact information! So please drop us a line. As always, we will feed and house you all weekend. We have a secure location for you to store your equipment. And we really encourage you to bring friends along who might want to see the fest. Given how out of the way our art is, I don’t think we have to worry about the audience getting too large! If you have art work you would like displayed, let us know! We would love to display it for the weekend.
The Lineup:
Here is the intended lineup from 2006. Some performers could not attend, so the list is loosly accurate. LEMP Summer Arts Institute will consist of three 10-day workshops. Each features a different whose work in alternative music has earned them national attention. These workshops will be held on July 13-29, August 10-19 and September 15-23. The program will commence with a performance by the guest artist. During these workshops the guest artist will be available for a critique of the work of local young artists through a master-class. They will also bring the public in to watch a session where they are working at their art. There will also be a forum during which the general public will be able to discuss issues of art (music) in a broader social context as well as specific issues of craft, style and aesthetics. At the end of the institute, the artist will present what they have come up with during their stay in St. Louis. All events are free to the public except the concert that launches the workshops. The initial concert will be at our standard rate of $5. (We do recommend that any students participating in the workshop attend the concert.) In addition, it will be necessary for the students who wish to participate in the master class and interact with the artist one on one to register for the event. (Again there is no charge for this registration.) We are limiting the attendance for the workshop to 15 students. So obviously the earlier the student registers the more likely they are to be included. We are very excited to provide these programs to the people of St. Louis! Through them we will bring the audience closer to the creative process through observation of the artist at work. We will also provide St. Louis area artists a chance to interact with world-class musicians. We are able to keep the price of the event so minimal in part through a generous grant from the Regional Arts Council. ![]() ![]() |
